lecture commemorates Colin Gardner’s life

A PROFESSOR Colin Gardner Commemorative Lecture has been organised by the English Academy of Southern Africa for August 30.

Gardner, who was a political activist, former Msunduzi councillor, professor of English and the dean of Arts at UKZN, died in October last year.

The lecture, titled “Transformation and the Intellectual”, will be delivered by Professor Stanley Ridge, who is emeritus professor of English at the University of the Western Cape and past president of the English Academy of Southern Africa.

The University of KwaZulu-Natal’s (UKZN) College of Humanities is co-hosting the event that is open to the public. The lecture will start at 11 am and will take place in the Colin Webb Hall in the Pietermaritzburg campus.
