5 alternative local artists you should know about

Cape Town - Sometimes finding new music can be hard. It's much easier just to listen to the same artists and albums over and over again. 

That's why we've found five fresh artists that are a little bit removed from the mainstream for you to listen to and maybe fall in love with a little bit. They're all local and very talented. 

HERE ARE 5 ALTERNATIVE LOCAL ARTISTS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT:

1. Peter E. Marx 

The singer and songwriter's new song titled Wees Weer By My is already charting on radio stations like SFM (currently at #16 in the top 30), as well as, Apple Music's playlist of 50 Afrikaans hits and more.  

About the song, Peter said: "I hope over and above people enjoy my single and having it touch them in some way emotionally, more than anything I so would love for my experience to inspire others. "

2. amaFranx 

The local musician filmed his new video – which was released earlier this week and is titled Lockjaw – in one take while in Johannesburg. The sound is a unique bass-heavy mix of rhythmic vocals and a snappy beat.

3) Bokkie  

This Afrikaans female rap artist has a powerful message and an absorbing sound. Her latest music video speaks about the critical topic of violence against women and is titled Staan Op (Stand Up).

4) ZYO  

The South African music artist who is inspired by the cultural aesthetic of Afrofuturism - teamed up with Thandeka Mpfinyongo for his single Brighter Day. Thandeka is a traditional African music artist.

5) Casima   

The singer from the small town of Brits writes her own lyrics and music and puts her own unique stamp on the local music scene. Her first single is titled Make a Way, and it was released in August.
