South Africa’s athletes leaving for Glasgow, Scotland today to participate in the Commonwealth Games have a huge task on their shoulders – to bring back a minimum of 43 medals.

Deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa told the athletes during their send off  to bring back bags of silver and gold.

The games are scheduled to start next week. “This country is going to be fully and totally behind you, and that should urge you to perform at your highest levels,” he said.

He added: “Today I look at you, I look at the colours of the rainbow, we are different, we are united, but we are one.

People in Glasgow will look at you and they will say these are Mandela’s children.
