6 more suspects arrested in City of Johannesburg R4 million fraud scandal

The Hawks have arrested six more suspects linked to City of Johannesburg for fraud and corruption which resulted in a loss of over R4 million.

The six suspects were arrested on Thursday morning amid ongoing investigations.

The suspects are Victor Nkosi, Nompumelelo Olifant, Quimaal Sallie, Andre Witte’s, Mildred Njody, and Micah Moyo’s.

They appeared before the Johannesburg Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on Thursday on charges of fraud and corruption and were granted R5000 bail each.

Nkosi, Olifant, Sallie and Witte’s case is postponed to February 2017 whilst Njody, and Moyo will appear in March.

Three of the suspects who were from Langlaagte and Midrand Licencing Department were arrested at their residences in Soweto and Florida while the other three handed themselves over to the Hawks offices in Johannesburg accompanied by their attorneys.

In total fourteen have been arrested in this incident for colluding with the applicants by removing outstanding traffic fines from the system in order to renew drivers’ licences or licence discs in exchange for a bribe.
