6 trapped after car rolls down 20m embankment

Six people were seriously injured on Friday after being rescued from a toppled car that rolled down a 20m embankment, landing atop another vehicle in Avoca Hills, Durban.

The vehicle reportedly veered off the road and plunged down the embankment at 14:00 on Friday, coming to rest on its side atop another vehicle that was parked at a residence at the bottom of the hill, a Netcare 911 spokesperson said.

The fire department the jaws-of-life to allow Netcare 911 paramedics to stabilise the injured occupants in the lopsided vehicle.

The injured were treated at the scene and transported to various hospitals.

In Verulam, meanwhile, a woman in her 60s was left critically injured after her car rolled over along a bend on Oakland’s Drive.

The woman had reportedly sustained life threatening injuries, and was attended to by Netcare 911 paramedics before being transported to hospital for emergency surgery.

A further seven people were injured in a third accident in KwaZulu-Natal, as three vehicles collided along the R61 at the Mpenjati Bridge on the south coast.
