Police warned revellers that if they do not behave at the 16th annual '60s party in North West, they will spend the weekend in jail.

Colonel Emeldah Setlhako appealed to the community to be alert and cautious for the duration of the annual party, which starts on Saturday at Lotlamoreng Dam in Mahikeng, a Sapa correspondent reported.

"This event draws a large number of people from different parts of the country and brings Mahikeng area to a standstill," she said.

"The high level of alcohol abuse and drunk driving by party-goers, consequently leading to horrible accidents on the roads, will not be tolerated and harsh actions will be taken against the culprits."

Setlhako said the provincial joint operation centre would be on alert.
