A day of love, joy and music

A gentle breeze rustles through the towering trees of the garden where Loyiso Bala awaits his bride. Picture perfect doesn’t even begin to describe the day he and Jennifer Odjidja have been waiting for.

Rows of white Tiffany chairs surround the white-carpetted aisle, and when she finally makes her appearance on the arm of her brother Romeo, Loyiso’s eyes light up.

Dressed in a lace Lady Marmalaide gown with a long veil and tiara, Jennifer looks like a princess out of a fairytale as she floats down the aisle.

Loyiso, looking equally dapper in a duck-egg blue Diaan Daniels suit, beams up at her. But before the ceremony has even begun, Loyiso is in tears as their friend Lloyd Cele serenades the couple with his favourite hymn, Great is thy Faithfulness.

“I see Loyiso has tears in his eyes and we haven’t even started – this is going to be good,” Pastor Harold Black chuckles as Loyiso dabs his eyes. And as the couple turn to face each other, you can feel the love they share.

Close friends and family who’ve gathered at the picturesque Summer Place in Hyde Park, Joburg, begin to ululate and burst into song once the couple are presented as husband and wife.

“I was trying so hard to keep my emotions in check as she walked down the aisle, but when I heard my favourite hymn, I couldn’t contain myself,” Loyiso tells us after the ceremony. Jennifer, on the other hand, was able to keep the tears in. “There was no way I was going to cry and ruin all this good make-up,” she laughs.
