Destabilised by attacks, and with key political figures either fleeing the country or dying, Lesotho is in crisis. DRUM writer, Kaizer Ngwenya reports.

Former Prime Minister of Lesotho Tom Thabane has been living in South Africa for a few months, after leaving his home country earlier this year and handing over the reins to current Prime Minister Pakalitha Mosisili, leader of the Democratic Congress.

The tiny mountain kingdom has been destabilised, allegedly, by the Lesotho Defense Force, on opposition leaders that resulted in the recent murder of LDF General, Maaparankoe Mahao.

Thabane blames the current crisis on the reappointment of the army leader he fired last year, General Tlali Kamoli.

Political analysts in Lesotho say there was a secret pact among political leaders that Kamoli should not be reinstated as army chief.

But Mosisili did just that, immediately after the February elections.
