Nissan, the Japanese car maker is set to launch a new 16-seater Nissan NV350 Impendulo, replacing the legendary E20.

Nissan South Africa’s managing director Mike Whitfield said the E20 model which was discontinued in 1996, was a market leader in the taxi sector.

Whitfield says the Impendulo  (a Nguni word for “the answer”) is an attractive public transport alternative, offering style, space, comfort and fuel efficiency.

The new taxi will be launched in March.

Whitfield said the new model has been specifically tailored for the South African market.

Mandla William Mabaso, a member of the Thuthukani Taxi Association from Gauteng’s Germiston Region, was awarded R50, 000 for successfully naming the new Taxi Impendulo.
