A red, red rose (7/7)

True love always comes out on top.

The sight of him bedevilled Thipe, who screamed, “You damn cockroach!” He picked up the flowers that had been left on the load bed of the bakkie. Once again the bouquet was sent flying like a kite. It landed upright in the vertical exhaust pipe of the tractor. Smoke came from underneath the floral spectacle and was blown away by the wind.

The tractor’s roar and Thipe’s screaming attracted onlookers. Owner came around to remove the flowers. Lea intercepted him. She gave her cellphone to a spectator and the two of them kissed while a picture was taken with the flowers standing behind them like a romantic beacon.

Owner was revelling in the moment. He shouted at Thipe, “Listen, boy – I’m the ownerable here!” Much to Thipe’s dismay, and the spectators’ applause, he went down on his knee in front of Lea. He declared, “My love for you is like a red, red rose. Throw it away as many times as you like, but it will always land on top. Will you marry me, Lea?”

She wasted no time and said, “Oh yes – you’re my only ownerable!”

The end.
