AFCON blazes into semi-finals

The AFCON has now advanced into its semi-final round. Find out how the remaining four countries claimed their victory.

Cote d'Ivoire and Ghana have secured their spots in the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) semi-finals by beating Algeria and Guinea respectively.

Last night, the Ivorian Elephants beat Algeria 3-1 to claim their fourth semi-final placement in six tournaments.

An encounter earlier in the day saw the four-time champions Ghana comfortably beat Guinea 3-0 to advance to the next round.

On Saturday, an entertaining encounter saw the Democratic Republic of Congo dramatically rise from two goals down to claim a 4-2 victory against Congo-Brazaville.

Later in the evening, Equatorial Guinea were controversially victorious against Tunisia in a match whose fate was decided in extra time with the hosts winning 2-1.

Tunisia's controversial loss has led to the President of the Tunisian Football Federation (TFF), Wadii Al Jarii, resigning from his position in the AFCON's organising committee.

The first round of semi-finals will take place on Wednesday where the DRC will go head to head with Cote d'Ivoire at 21:00.

And Ghana will look to ease into another final by taking on newbies Equatorial Guinea on Thursday evening at 21:00.
