All in the family

IT’S a scene of domestic bliss – the smells of home cooking are everywhere; our bubbly hostess swans around the kitchen in her tube dress; the happy sounds of children fill the air and all the time her violinist husband darts from one room to the next, keeping the home fires burning.

“It’s always like this,” says musician Swazi Dlamini. “There’s never a dull moment.”Here in their cosy Victorian-style home in Joburg’s Orange Grove, the 31-year-old soprano and her husband Tshepo Mngoma (32) are so friendly and relaxed it’s easy to forget that they’re one of the country’s hottest music couples.

And just to prove it, Tshepo was recently appointed musical director and conductor for the production of the Broadway musical Dreamgirls. Not to be outdone, Swazi releases her new album this month, and they each have coveted South African Music Awards (Samas) to their names.
