On the eve of the Nanoma Niyangibona Celebration, the anticipated sell-out at the Moses Mabhida stadium, news did the rounds that Andile kaMajola, the organiser of the event in question, was unexpectedly hospitalised.

Previously scheduled for 6 November, a week after Cassper Nyovest’s sell-out at The Dome, the show would have been a DVD recording and also feature gospel heavyweights Rebecca Malope, Spirit of Praise and Jabu Hlongwane.

But a day before the event, it came to light that all was not well with gospel crooner cum businessman. What’s more, details were sketchy around the circumstances around his hospitalisation.

Without success, Drum tried to contact Andile on Friday. Later on he texted us and his message read: “I’m still in hospital but I’m getting better by the minute. The devil, it seems, had a contract out on me as it were. He wanted to finish me off with a sudden illness but God said ‘no’. I collapsed and the doctors chalk it up to fatigue because I had overworked myself.

“But the show is now on December 04 and we are going even bigger and stronger. Thanks for checking up on me, I almost died, man. I’ve never had something like that before in my life.”
