British tennis player Andy Murray has made history for being the first Brit to win the Wimbledon men’s single tournament since 1936.

Andy Murray winning the Wimbledon ends 77-year British drought in this tournament since Fred Perry won the last of three in a row in 1936.

He beats world number one Novak Djokovic in straight sets 6-4, 7-5, 6-4 and earned a first prize of £1.6m (R24. 3m) for his win.

A flabbergasted Andy went on twitter to express his feeling of the outcome tweeting “Can't believe what's just happened!!!!!!!” and thinking his fans for the support, “Thanks for all the support!”
