Argentina looking to snatch up World Cup

Argentina would love to snatch up the World Cup champions title at Brazil 2014 - and finally collect their third much-anticipated third world title.

It's been 27 years since Argentina were atop the world after the 1986 World Cup crown in Mexico.

The Albiceleste, who also won in 1978, reached the final in 1990 but lost to Germany.

Argentina would twice get stopped by Germany in the quarter-finals, in 2006 and 2010, leaving star Lionel Messi wondering when he would finally lift the trophy.

Messi has been brilliant under new manager Alejandro Sabella, tallying 14 goals as Argentina had nine wins and drew five times in 16 qualifiers. Sabella also got 11 goals from Gonzalo Higuain while the team also features stars like Angel di Maria, Sergio Aguero, Javier Mascherano and Maxi Rodriguez.

The key naturally will be Messi and the main question is if "La Pulga" -the flea - will be fully fit for Brazil 2014.

The Barcelona ace showed that - when fit - he's ready to join the ranks of world champs as he collected a hat-trick in Argentina's 4-3 victory over Brazil in a friendly in the summer of 2012.
