Ask Dr Nomteto: Not maturing

I've never matured like other girls, developing breasts or menstruating.

Not maturing.

When I was eighteen I went to see a doctor, did medical examinations and even had an operation. They prescribed hormonal pills for me and I've been taking them since then, but there's no improvement. I'm 27 now.

Dr Nomteto answers:

Twenty-seven is very late and out of the normal range for breast development and menstruation. You need to visit a gynae for a thorough check-up. Unfortunately, you don't say what operation was performed or what hormonal pills were prescribed, making it very difficult to form any conclusion. The causes for a lack of menstruation are varied and any abnormality could be significant and would need attention from a specialist.
