Baby Jake Matlala has passed away

Former South African world boxing champion Jacob "Baby Jake" Matlala has passed away at the Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital on Saturday morning.

He was 51, born 1 August 1962 in Meadowlands, Johannesburg.

Matlala's death was confirmed by family spokesperson Alan McCauley.

At a height of 1.47 meters, or 4-foot-10, Matlala was the shortest boxing world champion ever. With a total of 68 fights (53 wins and 2 draws), he ended his career with 4 world championships. He presented his WBU belt to Nelson Mandela (Died 5 December 2013) after his fight to Juan Herrera

He is survived by his wife and two children.
