When lead singer Buhle Mda took a break, The Soil found a great substitute in Theo Matshoba, but what will happen now that Buhle’s back?

Originally  a trio, The Soil, is now a quartet– at least for the moment.

The a Capella group is one of SA’s most successful ensembles, but in January lead singer Buhle “Soil Sister” Mda (28) announced she would be taking time off from her musical duties from March to concentrate on her ancestral calling.

Filling her very big shoes was a tough task, but beating thousands of hopefuls, talented 20-year old Theo “Songstress” Matshoba joined the trio.

Theo hit the ground running and more than rose to the challenge. Within no time she’d found her rhythm with group members Ntsika “Fana-tastic” Ngxanga and Luphindo “Master P” Ngxanga and won many fans’ hearts.

However, having completed her sangoma training, Buhle is now set to return.

The big question is whether her temporary replacement will become a permanent fixture? We sat these song sisters down for a heart-to-heart.
