One recipe, two uses, countless smiles from your happy family. This fish dish will leave them asking for more.

Makes 4 to 6 portions

Preparation time: 15 min

Cooking time: 20 to 30 min

  • 6 thick fish fillets or one small snoek
  • salt to taste
  • 10 ml (2 t) oil

Preheat the oven to 200 °C and grease an oven dish with oil. Place the fish fillets or snoek in the greased dish.

Cheese mixture

  • 300 ml Cheddar cheese, grated
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 200 ml mayonnaise
  • 100 ml chutney
  • salt and freshly ground pepper

Mix the Cheddar cheese, onion and mayonnaise and spread on top of the fish fillets or whole fish. Bake the fish for 20 to 30 minutes or until done. Switch the oven on grill and grill the fish for a few minutes until golden brown. Divide the fish into smaller pieces and make sure all the bones are removed. Serve the fish pieces on mashed potato or polenta with steamed vegetables.

Top tips

  • Make sure you remove most of the bones and remind the children that fish has to be eaten with care because it contains bones.
  • This cheese mixture is delicious on an open grilled sandwich but shorten the cooking time.
