Basic bread and butter pudding

Back to basics: bring back memories with this bread and butter pudding.

Serves: 6

125 g butter, softened

20 slices of white bread

125 ml (½ c) raisins

125 ml (½ c) cream

250 ml (1 c) milk

5 ml (1 t) vanilla essence

2 eggs

125 ml (½ c) castor sugar

zest of 1 lemon

a pinch of nutmeg

Preheat the oven to 180 °C and grease a 22 x 15 cm ovenproof dish.

1. Spread the butter over the bread slices, then layer the slices overlapping in an ovenproof dish. Sprinkle the raisins over.

2. Combine the rest of the ingredients and pour over the bread. Set aside for 30 minutes to soak. Bake for 35 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm.
