Be prepared when you quit

Concern about weight gain stops many smokers quitting. And it’s true that if you reach for sugary or high-fat snacks every time you crave a cigarette, the kilojoules will add up fast. But don’t let this put you off trying to stop, as smoking does your health no favours. When you quit, be prepared – always have plenty of low-fat snacks with you. Good options are sugar-free sweets, carrots, celery sticks and low-kilojoule chewing gum.
