Cameroon left-back Benoit Assou-Ekotto let his frustrations boil over as he head-butted his team-mate Benjamin Moukandjo in the closing stages of their 4-0 defeat by Croatia.

The pair were arguing in injury time before the Tottenham defender thrust his head at the forward.

Cameroon coach Volker Finke said he will find out why the incident happened.

"It's unimaginable. I saw this happen and I need to find out exactly what happened, why exactly these two players exploded," Finke told BBC.

"I hate to see that. It's not the image of Cameroon I want to project."

It seems the France-born defender, who impressed for Cameroon during their opening Group A defeat to Mexico, qualified to play for the African side through his father, could not take the defeat.

The Tottenham left back, on loan at QPR last season, lashed out at his team-mate.

Assou-Ekotto's anger continued after the final whistle in Manaus as Samuel Eto'o was forced to restrain him in the tunnel.

Cameroon's second defeat in Brazil eliminates them from the tournament and means the African side have now failed to reach the second round of the World Cup in their last five attempts.
