After the post some of her fans wondered if she was becoming a sangoma to which Boity said she wasn't.

Last week Friday television personality Boity Thulo posted a picture of herself on her Instagram in a sangoma outfit saying that she would be wearing the outfit on Club 808 to celebrate Africa Month.

Today a week later, the Sowetan newspaper reported that her outfit has upset traditionalists.

Speaking to the newspaper Sheila Mbele-Khama, commissioner at the Commission for the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Cultural, Religious and Linguistic Communities (CRL), said Boity should not have worn the outfit.

"We are not allowed to pass on beads. It's like one's medication. The neck beads she has on are for qualified Ndau and Mnguni initiates. There is a specific medicine inside them and they are worn only after graduation," she said.

The outfit according to Sheila is only meant to be worn by initiates and inyangas.
