Boko Haram uses girls as militants

Boko Haram continues to terrorise Nigerian citizens and has now recruited young girls to carry out its attacks.

Yesterday, bombs strapped to two girls aged about 10 years old went off in a market in the Nigerian town of Potiskum, killing at least three people.

The Star reports that a similar incident took place on Saturday in another Nigerian town, Maiduguri, where a girl of a similar age detonated a bomb she had strapped to herself in a market. The bomb ended the lives of 20 people.

The girls are believed to have been instructed by the extreme Islamist militant group, Boko Haram.

These attacks are an addition to an approximate number of 2 000 people that were killed last week by the extremists.

The attacks have included the armed invasion of villages around the country.

There have been further reports that an estimated 30 000 people have fled their homes while 7 500 are seeking asylum in bordering countries such as Chad.

There have been calls for the media to pay attention to what is continuing to occur in the country and the sheer numbers it is happening in, instead of the shooting that occurred the past week at the French satirical magazine, Charlie Hebdo.
