WELL, it certainly lived up to the international hype! Prince William and the lovely Kate Middleton captured the hearts of people all over the world when they married recently. Hundreds of thousands of people lined the streets of London and some two billion more watched the event in one of the biggest-ever live television broadcasts.

It was a moment of affirmation for the British royal family, whose popularity ratings have slid since Princess Diana's death in 1997. The wedding is believed to have renewed Britain's faith in its monarchy, and William and Kate are seen as a couple capable of leading the royals into the future."These occasions help to reinvigorate the monarchy," says Peter Hunt, royal correspondent for the BBC. "They generate fresh, worldwide interest in its activities and offer the promise of another generation to sustain it."
