Singer and dancer Candy “Tsa Mandebele” Mokoena is working on a new TV show called Artist Rundown, which premieres in the first week of March on GauTV, DStv channel 265. Candy says it’s about getting to know local celebrities and upcoming artists better, focusing on who they were before they became famous.

“Before I became an artist, people knew me as Candy,” she says. “I was a sweet girl growing up in a village performing with a traditional group formed by different villagers of various age groups. At school I was a runner, just like Caster Semenya, which was life for me. With this show, I will be focusing more on these kinds of stories. Viewers should expect to learn things they didn’t know about their favourite stars, and they’ll definitely be entertained. The show will be multilingual.”

She adds that she’s shooting the 11th episode.

Candy was born and raised in Ga-Sedibeng village in Bolobedu, Limpopo. She’s best known for Tsa Mandebele, her hit song featuring Oskido.

She started singing in the 1980s and has worked with Penny Penny, Shakabundu Girls (a group in which she was lead vocalist), Peter T, Kabelo Mabalane, Ringo, Oskito and many more.

Candy has won a Metro FM Music award and a FAME SA Award in 2015 for Best Female Artist.
