Event’s organiser and Khanyi Mbau’s former publicist Linda Moeketsi was a victim of identity theft and blackmail after his Blackberry cellphone was stolen this past weekend from his home in Alberton during a party he had thrown for close friends.

Two days after the cellphone was stolen the thief, who has since been identified as a 25 year old from Bloemfontein, attempted to solicit money from his famous friend.

“He sent a Blackberry message to Somizi pretending to be me and asked for R3000 to be sent via eWallet,” says Moeketsi.

The thief also solicited R3000 and R5000 from Moeketsi’s other friends. Fortunately, Linda and his friends were able to foil the get-rich-quick schemes of the 25 year old.

After his failed attempts, Moeketsi received a threatening sms from his stolen cellphone number: “Anything you want to say before I make your nude pictures go viral."

The publicist clarifies that there were no nudes on his phone but just suggestive images. “There were pictures on my phone that I took while I was at the gym wearing underwear or swimwear,” claims Linda Moeketsi.

The events organiser traced the number and the perpetrator was swiftly arrested on Tuesday.

“I just want to warn people in public platforms to be careful and take care of the stuff they put in their cellphone, because they put themselves in a position of being blackmailed if the phones land in the wrong hands.”
