Comedian Chris Forrest has topped singer Patricia Lewis and has earned the title of South Africa’s first Celebrity MasterChef. Chris garnered R185 000, plus a brand new VW Jetta 1.7 TSI for the charity, Villa of Hope, while Patricia won R175 000 for her charity Food and Trees for Africa.

For their first finale challenge, the finalists, Chris and Patricia had to cook a seafood dish for eight special people being their fellow eight contestants. The round was not scored by the MasterChef judges, but by their peers in a secret vote.

Patricia decided to make a seared tuna dish with roasted strawberries and gorgonzola, while Chris got adventurous with a salmon trout ceviche and an avocado sorbet.  After tasting both dishes, the eight other celebrity contestants cast their votes and handed them to judges Pete, Benny and Reuben.

Then followed a second challenge that was a pressure test like no other. The finalists both had cook a saddle of lamb to perfection. After some serious deliberation, the judges announced the scores from both challenges, pointing out that MasterChef had already changed Patricia and Chris’ lives by turning them into superb cooks over a period of just a few weeks.

The blind taste test done by the eight other celebrities revealed that Patricia scored 15 out of a possible 25 points, while Chris scored an impressive 22 out of 25 points overall, meaning that he went into the pressure test with a clear points advantage. Chris then also impressed the judges with his second dish and landed the MasterChef title.
