Matric learners can get their results via sms

SABC Education has partnered with the Department of Basic Education and launched a service which will allow the 2016 matric learners to receive their results via SMS at the cost of R1.

A similar system was used in 2015 and more than 300 000 learners managed to receive their matric results by SMS.

According to Eric Muragana, spokesperson for SABC Education, matriculants can SMS their I.D. and Student number to 35658 or dial *120*35658# to register.

“It is all very quick. The SMS will tell you that you’ve passed but the USSD option will give you subject marks along with your results,” Muragana tells DRUM.

However, learners still need to go fetch their National Senior Certificates at their respective schools and not only rely on the system.

Murangana says matric results will be released at the different schools at 08h00 on Thursday, 5 January 2017, except in the Western Cape, where the results will be made available on 6 January.

The Department of Basic Education has recorded that more than 670 000 full-time students and more than 150 000 part-time candidates sat down to write their finals in 2016.

Matric learners must register by 31 December to get their matric results via SMS.
