ANC Gauteng spokesman Dumisa Ntuli was a dedicated, loyal and hard-working servant of the revolutionary movement and will be sorely missed, Cosatu said in a tribute to him on Monday.

Ntuli died in a car accident near his home in Albertsdal, Ekurhuleni, on Sunday.

"We send our deepest condolences and sympathy to his wife, Lebo, and all his family, friends and comrades on their tragic loss," Congress of SA Trade Unions spokesman Patrick Craven said in a statement.

Ntuli's death was confirmed by the African National Congress on Sunday.

"The ANC in Gauteng province is shocked and deeply saddened by the passing away of comrade Dumisa Ntuli," it said in a statement.

Ntuli cut his political teeth as a founding member of the Congress of SA Students (Cosas) in 1979, and was appointed spokesman of the National Union of Metalworkers of SA (Numsa) on completion of his studies.

He later joined the office of the ANC chief whip in the City of Johannesburg as a manager before taking up his position at the ANC communications unit in Gauteng.

"His unassuming, courteous and kindly nature touched all those who were fortunate to meet him and for this, amongst his many other noble qualities, he will be sorely missed," the ANC said.
