Cottage pie

An easy recipe for a quick dinner on a weeknight.

Serves: 4 – 6

Preparation: 10 min

Cooking: 25 min

30 ml (2 T) butter

500 g beef mince

1 onion, chopped

400 g can baked beans in chilli sauce

30 ml (2 T) Worcestershire sauce

60 ml (¼ c) chutney

60 ml (¼ c) tomato sauce

15 ml (1 T) dried mixed herbs

5 potatoes, mashed

  1. Heat a large frying pan over a high heat. Add the butter, beef mince and onion and cook, stirring to break up the meat. Do this for 3 minutes, until the meat is browned.
  2. Stir in baked beans, Worcestershire sauce, chutney, tomato sauce and dried mixed herbs. Simmer rapidly for 5 minutes, until thickened. Tip into a deep baking dish.
  3. Meanwhile, preheat the grill to high. Spoon mash on top of the mince and fluff up the surface with a fork. Pop under the hot grill for a few minutes, until golden and bubbling.
