Long-running musical reality show, American Idol is set to come to end in 2016.

The New York Times reports that the 15th season of the show which began in 2002, will be the last time we see host Ryan Seacrest and judges Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick Jnr scouring the USA in search of new vocal talent.

The decision to pull the show comes after the American network that flights the show, Fox, took the drop in viewership to heart.

The show hit 30 million viewers in a past season but has failed to reach those numbers lately.

Fox made the announcement on Monday after it met with advertisers to present their season lineup for the television network.

American Idol has been responsible for discovering musical gems such as Jennifer Hudson, Fantasia and Jordin Sparks.

The show has also spawned music reality spin-offs such the X-Factor and The Voice.
