Born in Orlando East, Soweto.

Jonas Mosa Gwangwa has been an important figure in South African jazz for decades.

Born in 1941, making him 74 this year.

A respected trombonist.

Exiled for 30 years.

Has six children, seventeen grandchildren and three great-grand children.

Left home in 1961 to tour with the musical King-Kong. He studied at New York's prestigious Manhattan School of Music. The score achieved Oscar, Grammy Bafta, Golden Globe and Anthony Asquith award nominations and won Ivor Novello and Black Emmy Awards. Gwangwa spent ten years as musical director of the African National Congress’s (ANC) ensemble tourAmandla.
