Designing duo Dolce and Gabbana are facing legal woes with the taxman which trace back to 2010 and it looks like they could end up behind bars.

In 2010, the designers were accused of tax evasion but because of lack of evidence the case was thrown out but the case was reopened in 2011. The designing duo Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana are accused of setting up a holdings company in Luxembourg to avoid declaring over 840 million euros (R10.7 billion) in sales to the Italian government.

Now Dolce, Gabbana and their accountant may face jail time related to the 2004 sale of the Dolce&Gabbana and D&G brands to the designers' Luxembourg-based holding company, Gado Srl.

According to reports,  Gaetano Ruta, the prosecutor representing the Italian government in tax evasion proceedings has called for prison sentences of two-and-a-half years each to be awarded to the duo at the designers’ sentencing hearing.
