Durban University of Technology students clashed with riot police in the Durban city centre on Tuesday

Durban - .

Students, who had marched through the central business district, had been diverted back to the ML Sultan Campus when the clashes took place.

Lectures have been suspended until Wednesday.

Students, who locked themselves inside the campus, hurled rocks and bricks at police on the other side of the fence.

Police used stun grenades and rubber bullets to disperse the protesters.

On Monday, hundreds of students gathered at DUT to march for free tertiary education.

The clashes followed sporadic violence at the University of KwaZulu-Natal’s Pietermaritzburg campus.
