Adventure. 2010. 111 min. With Jake Gyllenhaal

and Gemmaarterton.

Director: Mike Newell.10V.

Dastan (Gyllenhaal) is an orphaned boy who’s rescued from the streets by the king of Persia and raised as a prince. The king’s brother persuades the streetwise prince and his brothers to invade the holy city of Alamut – but unbeknown to the princes their evil uncle wants to get his hands on a holy dagger. When Dastan is framed for his father’s murder he teams up with Princess Tamina (Arterton), the ruler of Alamut, to protect the dagger. Will they succeed?

The movie is based on the video game and is loaded with humour and action. The dialogue gets corny at times and the ending is predictable, but there’s lots of chemistry between Gyllenhaal and Arterton, and plenty of eye candy – who wouldn’t want to see a buffed-up Gyllenhaal kitted out in armour and a skirt? A fun popcorn movie for the entire family. Bonus: featurette.
