Adventure. 2010. 140 min. With Russell Crowe

and Cate Blanchett. Director: Ridley Scott. 13V.

Robin Hood will never be the same! Director Ridley Scott’s interpretation of the heroic British outlaw is vastly different from other film versions. It’s actually a prequel that shows how Robin came to be the medieval folk hero who robbed the rich to feed the poor. A 13th-century English soldier helps his king defeat France, only to be stabbed in the back by his leader and declared a criminal...

Crowe is realistic and believable as the bitter, damaged Robin and Blanchett’s sensitive portrayal brings Marion Loxley to life as a strong-willed woman ahead of her time.

Although there’s some of the humour found in other Robin Hood flicks this is an epic of grand proportions. Intense drama and bloody fighting set against the stunning backdrop of old England make for a feast for the eyes and the well-developed plot will have you hooked till the credits roll. Bonus: deleted scenes with commentary.
