Action Comedy. 2010. 107 min. With Will Ferrell, Mark Wahlberg and Eva Mendes.

Director: Adam Mckay. 16L.

After a shooting accident, eccentric police detective Allen Gamble (Ferrell) is restricted to a desk job – a situation he’s happy with but his gung-ho partner Terry Hoitz (Wahlberg) isn’t. Then the precinct’s two star cops manage to wipe themselves out while pursuing robbers and their desk-bound colleagues – the “other guys” – are put back on the street. But Allen is as useless as ever with guns, and chaos ensues when they have to face a team of mercenaries. Meanwhile Allen’s sexy wife (Mendes) has Terry drooling with lust...

Ferrell’s comedy star has waned of late but with a wellwritten, multi-faceted character to get his teeth into this is a respectable return to form. And Wahlberg, a natural at action roles, surprises with fine comic timing, especially in his scenes with Mendes. With laughs aplenty and the action coming thick and fast this is entertainment all the way. Bonus: deleted and extended scenes; featurettes.
