True-life drama. 2010. 116 min. with Jesse Eisenberg, Andrew Garfield, Armie Hammer and Justin Timberlake.Director: david fincher. 13lsd.

This mesmerising film tells the story of how in 2003 Harvard undergraduate Mark Zuckerberg (Eisenberg) created a social networking site called Facebook – which in just a few years grew to more than 500 million users worldwide, making him the youngest billionaire ever.

But Zuckerberg, while a genius programmer, is a thoroughly nasty character. Mean, vindictive and cold-hearted, he shamelessly steals the idea for Facebook from twins Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss (both played by Hammer) and betrays his best friend Eduardo Saverin (Garfield) – who put up the money to get the site off the ground – after hooking up with internet entrepreneur Sean Parker (Timberlake).

Eisenberg gives the performance of a lifetime as a young man who has everything except friends, and the direction and script are topnotch. With eight Oscar nominations including Best Picture and Best Actor (for Eisenberg), this is a fascinating, must-see look at very recent history. Bonus: commentary.
