Oskido and Bruce are still making magic ?and going strong ?after two decades in the entertainment business

YOU’LL be hard-pressed to find a male duo as inventive and consistent as Oskido (born Oscar Mdlongwa) and Bruce Sebitlo, the pair behind the successful kwaito-cum-house outfit BOP (Brothers of Peace).

We meet them at Cappello restaurant in Midrand, in northern Jozi. Having run awfully late, on arrival Oskido offers to settle our restaurant bill.

“Sorry about the delay,” Oskido apologises profusely. “I went to drop off a package at the airport.”

Oskido’s recent coup at the Channel O Awards saw the renowned producer and businessman honoured with the coveted Lifetime Achievement Award.

“It feels good to finally get recognised,” Oskido says. “I’m grateful and I think the Lord has blessed me – He’s surrounded me with good people. It’s not only my achievement – it also goes to the guys I work with. When I win it means group efforts are being acknowledged.

“We never won awards at Kalawa Jazmee Records and when we started Boom Shaka we didn’t win awards either.”Bruce interjects to say Oskido really deserves his win. “Oskido’s been there from day one and he’s the one who discovered me and Thebe,” says Bruce.
