East Cape men sentenced

Two men accused of various crimes have been given lengthy prison sentences by the High Court in Port Elizabeth, police said on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, Thembile Wilson Marwana, 38, was sentenced to 87 years in prison and his accomplice Lwandile Gogela, 26, to 48 years.

Warrant Officer Thembi Gwe said the two men were arrested for a range of crimes since July 2008.

"They were charged with robbery, kidnapping, possession of unlicenced firearm and ammunition, rape and attempted murder," said Gwe.

The two were arrested on July 22 after police spotted them in Dimbaza township, in Port Elizabeth.
