Faced with allegations of massive internal conflict and factionalism, the Eastern Cape branch of AGANG SA have pledged support for the party leader. "We confirm our unqualified support for Dr Mamphela Ramphele as president and leader of AGANG SA and the steps she has taken to assert control of the organisation," the province's spokesman Philip Machanick said in a statement on Sunday. Machanick also said they reject  "attempts to tarnish the reputation of our leader by unfounded defamatory accusations of fraud." Party spokesperson, Mark Peach, said Ramphele opened a fraud case regarding an account opened to receive a refund of about R200 000 from the Electoral Commission following the general election. This follows another fraud case opened at the Centurion police station by the party's chairman Mike Tshishonga for the same reason. "We don't know who opened the account, and it's too early to say anything. Until an investigation has happened, we simply don't know," Peach said on Friday.
