Dry, brittle and some what damaged nails and cuticles are not cute, but anyone can manage to have healthy and good looking nails.

1. Don't cut or manipulate cuticles

Because cuticles are the natural barrier to fungus and bacteria, it is recommended that they are left alone in order to protect you.

2. Use minimal or no nail hardeners

They do more damage than good, this is because they are not clinically studied; there is no scientific support.

3. Moisturize the nail bed and the cuticle

It will make your nails look healthy, because the cuticles won't look brittle and dry.

4. Take biotin supplements

Studies, researchers found that supplements of biotin (a member of the vitamin B family) increased nail thickness and prevented splitting and breaking.

5. Limit professional manicures

A study just completed by Stern and colleagues at Mt. Sinai showed those who indulged regularly were the most likely to suffer from dry, brittle nails. The doctors theorize that exposure to more chemicals and harsher ingredients may be one reason. Taking your own tools will help prevent infections.

6. Avoid acetone-based polish removers

Avoid acetone-based removers if you have brittle nails; they strips the nails.
