Eight arrested for Mpuma mob justice

Eight people arrested in connection with a mob killing in Nokaneng.

Eight people were arrested on Thursday in connection with a mob killing in Nokaneng, Mpumalanga police said.

The group was taken into custody after a man attacked by locals died in hospital, Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said.

They caught the man they suspected of stealing and smoking nyaope on Tuesday night, and assaulted him.

When police officers arrived to help the man, residents threw stones at them, damaging their vehicle.

"The police were taken to hospital for medical treatment. The victim was hospitalised and was reported dead on Wednesday afternoon."

The arrested people, aged between 27 and 60, would appear in the Moretele Magistrate's Court on Friday.
