A Chinese couple was injured when an elephant flipped their car in the Kruger National Park on Monday morning.

Only the man sustained visible injuries, park spokesman William Mabasa said. A helicopter, local doctor, and paramedics were sent to the scene.

"It is not clear yet why the elephant turned aggressive. However, we would like to appeal to the public to always be on the look-out for these huge animals and try not to get too close whenever they see one approaching on the road," Mabasa said in a statement.

"We have been informed that the man has a few broken ribs and internal bleeding. Tests on him are not completed. The woman is complaining of back pains and we are waiting for her X-rays."

They were taken to the Clinix Phalaborwa private hospital. The park's management would verify the man's details and contact the Tourism Safety Initiative, and their embassy.
