EXCLUSIVE: Menzi is a real “softie” in real-life

Menzi Ngubane is known for playing bad-ass characters on TV. He’s always the villain, plotting and scheming to overcome his enemies and often driven by power and greed.

One of his best-known roles was that of Sibusiso Dlomo on Generations and now in the role of Judas Ngwenya, a power-hungry taxi owner on the set of Isibaya.

When DRUM meets up with him and his family for our Christmas shoot, we find that he is the complete opposite. In fact, his wife Siki calls him a “Teddy bear” – soft and lovable.

“The characters he plays on TV are the opposite of him,” she says. “One thing many don’t know is that he’s a very shy person. He’s loving, he’s a Teddy bear. He’s my Teddy bear.”

The chemistry between the couple is electric, it’s obvious that the two years they have been married have been good to them.

They are the image of a perfect family with their daughter Ziyanda (8) and their oldest daughter Siya (18), who couldn’t join us for the shoot because she had another appointment.

DRUM asks them what were the best gifts they have ever received from each other.

Siki is the first to answer – he surprised her with a Mercedes-Benz, which has always been her dream car.

Menzi says his favourite gift from his wife is a silver and black watch.

“That watch bankrupted me. I was broke for a while after buying it,” says Siki.

The couple opens up about their marriage and tell us all there is to know about them.
