A former Bafana Bafana coach has been arrested for allegedly groping a 26-year-old woman’s private parts and assaulting and intimidating her 30-year-old boyfriend during the Moroka Swallows and Orlando Pirates derby in Dobsonville, Soweto last night, police spokesperson Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela confirmed to DRUM.

According to Makhubela, the couple laid three charges including sexual assault, common assault and intimidation against the former coach at the nearby Dobsonville Police Station after a quarrel erupted inside a VIP suite at the stadium.

It is alleged by eyewitnesses that the accused, who is known to DRUM but cannot be named until he pleads in court, lost his temper after the woman rested her foot on his seat.

“His back came into contact with the lady’s foot and that really got him mad. He then warned her not to put her foot on his seat,” an eyewitness alleges.

Another eyewitness alleged that the woman “must have forgot about the warning” and rested her foot on his seat again.

“[The former coach] lost his temper and screamed at the woman, grabbed her private part area and pulled her towards himself,” the eyewitness alleged.

“The lady’s boyfriend tried to intervene to stop him from manhandling his girlfriend. That’s when [the former coach] hurled insults and punches at the boyfriend.”

The accused will appear in the Protea Magistrates’ Court tomorrow, Makhubela said.
