Seven schools in Gauteng no longer use chalks and chalkboards, pens and books.

The High schools in the East Rand have started lessons a week before other public schools in the province open.

Teachers at Boitumelong, Phomolong , Thandi Eleanor Sibeko high schools and Tshepisa, Tlamatlama and  Ponelopele Phomolong primary are the first of the 2000 public schools to migrate from traditional form of learning to digital technology teaching and learning.

“The department has provided the schools with e-learning equipment like interactive boards, tablets that have e-content,” says Gauteng Education spokesperson Phumla Sekhonyane.

“We are also going to continue to provide IT support,” she adds.
