The World Cup craze has reached the International Space Station.

German astronaut Alexander Gerst has shaved the heads of his two US colleagues after successfully betting that Germany would beat the United States in their Group G game on Thursday.

Gerst, who is bald, posted a picture of himself with US colleagues Reid Wiseman and Steve Swanson with shaved heads after the game in Brazil, which Germany won 1-0 to secure qualification to the last-16 stage.

The US also qualified on goal difference.

"It was nice to wake up this morning and not worry about my hair. There isn't any," Wiseman wrote on Twitter. Gerst tweeted: "Mission accomplished. Thanks to @DFB_Team_EN (the German football federation) & @ussoccer for a fun evening in space!"
