Going green tips

You may not be a delegate at COP17 but there are still small but effective things you can do to help save the planet.

We put together a list of things you can do to go green and save energy in your immediate community.

Use energy saving light bulbs in your home.

Turn off lights when out of room for more than a few minutes.

Unplug appliances when you're not using them.

Switch to a laptop instead of using a desktop computer and cut three-quarters off your electrical use. Turn off the laptop at the end of the day.

Wrap your geyser in an insulation blanket.

Switch off your geyser when going to work and when it is not being used.

Shower instead of bathing.

Take shorter showers.

Fix any leaking taps.

Buy an inexpensive reusable water bottle, instead of buying bottled water.

Reuse scrap paper.  Print on two sides, or let your children draw on the back side of used paper.

Car pool to work - this will not only help the planet but also save a few coins in the wallet which would have been spent on petrol.

Drive within the speed limit, and combine all your errands for the week in one trip.
